Mr. Johnnie James Thacker was born May 25, 1941, to the late Clarence Thacker, Sr., and Ora Robinson Thacker, in Newberry County, South Carolina.
Mr. Thacker was a graduate of Bell Street High School Class of 1959. After graduation, he attended the South Carolina Area Trade and was a graduate of the Class of 1962. Johnnie also was a graduate of Piedmont Technical College in 1982.
At an early age, he attended Little River Zion Baptist Church in Kinards, South Carolina with his late wife, Nancy Thacker. He later joined the Mt. Olive AME Church in Kinards, South Carolina. On June 18, 2023, he was presented with the Father of Mt. Olive AME Church Award.
Johnnie was a member of the United States Army Reserved for 28 years, where he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant.. He also retired from Torrington Company after 25 years, as well as the State of South Carolina after 15 years. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 5932 and Member of Lauren’s County Hall of Heroes. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Rose of Bethlehem #443.
Mr. Thacker entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at White Oak Manor in Newberry, South Carolina at the age of eighty-two.
Papa T, as he was lovely called by his family, leaves to cherish his memories to four sons: Travis Roberson of Tampa, Florida, Robert Thacker of Piedmont, SC, Roul Thacker, James (Samantha) Thacker, all of Clinton; South Carolina, his daughter Pamela (Robert) Thacker of Laurens, South Carolina; one brother, Clarence Thacker, Jr., of Laurens, South Carolina; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
